Arsenal moved a step closer to signing Andrei Arshavin last night when Zenit St Petersburg claimed they are ready to sell the player.

The Zenit statement said: "The basic understanding over the transfer is achieved between the clubs. At the moment the main obstacle in completing the deal is the player's personal requirements."
