Werder Bremen midfielder Daniel Jensen will not play again this season after undergoing surgery on his achilles tendon on Wednesday.
Absence confirmed
The 29-year-old Danish international has been struggling intermittently this term with an inflammation of the tendon in his right leg, and Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf confirmed Jensen's abence on the eve of Thursday's UEFA Cup quarter-final first leg at home to Udinese Calcio. "Jensen was operated on today," Schaaf said. "We don't know yet how it went – we'll only know that this evening. The only thing that's certain is that he won't be available for the rest of the season."

Specialist advice
Jensen, who has also broken his nose this season and played just eleven Bundesliga games this season, only five over 90 minutes, was previously quoted by German newspaper Bild as saying: "I have been to two specialists. Both have suggested that I should undergo surgery. This will at least mean a break of six to eight weeks. It looks like the season is over for me. I hope this will end my string of bad luck with injuries."
