David Moyes is ready to deliver a fatal blow to Liverpool's title hopes.
And the Everton manager has told his players that to do so, they must stop the "heartbeat" of the Anfield side - Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.
The Scottish coach goes into tonight's battle confident that his side can put behind them the misery of recent Merseyside derbies. He points to impressive displays against Chelsea and Manchester United, and believes that will provide the confidence required to stun Liverpool.
"We've got to have the courage to take the ball and to play under pressure," he said. "A lot of that comes from having confidence. Hopefully we will be able to show that in this one, because we haven't shown it in the last two games against Liverpool.
"When we played Chelsea, we played without fear and a bit of freedom and that's what I'm hoping for at Anfield."
Moyes has identified the threat offered by Liverpool's local talent Carragher and skipper Gerrard as the key to success. "The pair are the heartbeat of the club," he said.
Moyes is without the suspended Marouane Fellaini.
The £15million club record buy is also out of Sunday's FA Cup clash against Liverpool, but Moyes insists Everton can cope without him. "We've got good players and we were always going to lose him for two games somewhere along the line," he said. "We will move on - it won't cause too much disruption."
