Sources in the Gulf States say Roman Abramovich is trying to sell Chelsea.
It's claimed that representatives of the Russian billionaire have travelled to Saudi Arabia and Dubai to check the market for potential buyers for the club.
There is no suggestion yet that a deal has been struck but given the impact of the Abu Dhabi United group, who recently bought Manchester City, Abramovich's best hope of finding new investors would seem to lie in that part of the world.
Chelsea have insisted in recent weeks that Abramovich remains committed to the club and that it is "total nonsense" that he wants to sell.
However, a Middle East source said: "Abramovich's team have been out sounding out what interest there is in buying the club." The Russian bought control of Chelsea for about £60million in 2003 with the club in danger of financial collapse with debts of £80m.
Since then he has invested more than £500m and seen the Blues twice win the Premier League title but fail to land the Champions League..
