Arsenal are still in Title Race after Newcastle Win, says Arsene Wenger

Barclays Premier League: Newcastle 1-3 Arsenal
 Nicklas Bendtner celebrates his goal

Arsenal may be 10 points behind in the title race but manager Arsene Wenger is still dreaming of glory after a strong second half showing crushed Newcastle at St James' Park.

After goals from Nicklas Bendtner, Abou Diabi and Samir Nasri had snuffed out Newcastle's first half threat, Wenger said: "The Manchester United result provided us with a good opportunity for us to take advantage of that and get closer to the top.

"You never know, even a chance out of a billion, we want to fight to come back as close as we can to the team which is top. We feel we are in a very good run and we are improving from game to game. As far as the battle for the top four goes it is now in our hands and depends on how we play.

"We don't have to think about Aston Villa's results."

Struggling Newcastle, who surprisingly left Michael Owen on the bench, could have taken the lead if striker Obefami Martins had converted a 23rd minute penalty.

But keeper Manuel Almunia - whose foul on Ryan Taylor had led to the spot-kick - saved Martins' weak effort to provide the platform for Arsenal's impressive second-half flourish.

"From outside it looked harsh," Wenger said of the penalty. "I would have to see it again but it looked to me a harsh decision. Fortunately our keeper saved it.

"We suffered a bit in the first half under pressure, but in the second we created many chances and deserved to win.

"Second half we kept the tempo up high and won the game in a convincing way."
