Drogba, 30, is out of contract in 2010 and will be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season. He is still needed by Blues boss Luiz Felipe Scolari in this campaign with Nicolas Anelka the only other recognised striker.
But Drogba revealed in his autobiography last year that Mourinho had promised they would work together again after the self-styled Special One first signed him for £24m after his arrival at Chelsea in 2004.
