Berlusconi Vows to Combat 'Mad' Money in Football


ROME - AC Milan owner and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi vowed on Sunday to combat the huge amounts of money changing hands in football.

"The prices in football are pure madness," Berlusconi told reporters. "If you think about the figures and the relation to the normal economy, there's no proportion. It's not possible to go on like this.

"It's necessary to have a minimum sense of practicality and decency. You can't spend certain figures. Now I intend to do something about it because it has become unacceptable."

Milan sold Kaka to Real Madrid for a reported fee of 68 million euros ($94.66 million) earlier this month before the Spanish club made a record 80 million pounds ($130.9 million) bid to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.
