Claudio Ranieri was sacked by Juventus last night after two years in the job.

A dip in form which threatened hopes of Champions League qualification proved costly for the former Chelsea boss.

Ciro Ferrara will take charge for the final two games of the season.

The Italian club's general manager Jean Claude Blanc said: "We've taken this decision as a last resort.

"We're convinced this will deliver a clear message to the players - they need to play to the very best of their ability in these final two games.

"Everybody has to take responsibility."

Juve were knocked out of the Champions League by Chelsea in March and although they won their next two Serie A games 4-1 and are third in the table, they have not had a victory since.

"After recent results we find ourselves just one point ahead of Fiorentina and that is why we've decided, evaluating the whole season, to relieve Claudio Ranieri of his duties," added Blanc.

"It was a decision shared overwhelmingly by the whole club.

"We must finish at least third to get into the Champions League without having to play in the preliminary rounds."
