Cristiano Ronaldo Warned: If You Take On Alex Ferguson You will Always Lose

Cristiano Ronaldo has been told to prepare for a blast from Sir Alex Ferguson's hairdryer after his petulant strop.

Striker Andy Cole witnessed Ferguson's fury during his seven years at Manchester United - and knows the boss will not tolerate dissent.

He reckons Ronaldo could cop it from Ferguson for sulking so badly when he was substituted during the derby win over Manchester City, despite the United boss claiming he had "no problem" with the World Player of the Year.

"It will be interesting to see what the manager makes of it," said Cole. "The old hairdryer could be out.

"We can speculate how the manager is going to deal with it, but he always deals with things like this in his own way." Ronaldo simmered with rage in the dugout for the last half-hour of the game before driving off from Old Trafford in his Bentley within 15 minutes of the final whistle.

Cole, who could also be moody, understands Ronaldo's frustrations at being hauled off after scoring, but says he must listen to Ferguson.

"You want to play, that's why you're a professional footballer," he said. "He obviously has his eye on the Golden Boot award. He wants to win that again and he saw Steven Gerrard get two on Saturday, while Nicolas Anelka got another one against Arsenal.

"Ronaldo was not a happy bunny, but the manager knows what's best for his players.

"He's got to look at the bigger picture. Manchester United have got Wigan on Wednesday and Arsenal on Saturday and they're all working towards the title.

"He will say he wants to change a few things and give him a rest because there is a big game on Wednesday night." United legend Bryan Robson, who is a global ambassador for the club, criticised Ronaldo, claiming he had set a bad example to kids.

"I feel Ronaldo's reaction was wrong and it sent the wrong lesson to the kids watching the game around the world," he said. "It's not right for players to react to their manager's decision. They have to respect his decision, especially when it comes from someone like Sir Alex Ferguson.

"He knows what's right for the players to ensure they stay fresh and don't get injured." Cole also feels striker Carlos Tevez showed poor judgement by dropping his bombshell that he will be off in the summer on the morning of the game.

As with Ronaldo, Cole sympathises with Tevez's dilemma and his desire to have his future at Old Trafford sorted, but claims he could have picked a better moment.

"I read what he had to say and I think Carlos is just being honest," he said.

"He's not saying he should be playing, but he is saying he would like to be playing more football. It's bad timing, but his performance was excellent." United will resist Tevez's attempts to up the ante and they have consistently refused to pay the £26million remaining on his transfer fee to make his two-year loan move permanent.

The striker's team-mates hope both sides can reach an agreement and the Argentine, who bagged United's second against City, is very popular in the dressing room.

Defender Patrice Evra said: "He is a good professional and he has a lot of problems. But, when he plays, he respects the shirt of Manchester United.

This is why I have a lot of respect for him." United need just four more points to retain the Premier League and Evra claims they will be able to sniff the title if they win at Steve Bruce's Wigan tomorrow.

"We did our job very well against Manchester City," he said. "Now we have the game at Wigan and if we win that one, maybe we can smell the title."
